Allergy is a disease of civilization
Unlike the 20th century, the age of increasing cardiovascular diseases, the 21st will be, according to WHO prediction, the age of allergy. This is based upon a permanently registered increase of allergy rates every 10 years. In many countries of the world allergy has recently become a great problem affecting from 10 to 40 % of the population. The number of patients is constantly going up.
The main causes of this disease rate are bad environment, increase of stress, improper feeding, appearance of new allergens, uncontrolled drug use, enhanced radiation and so on.
It is still a question how many Ukrainians suffer from atopic bronchial asthma (in the course of which namely immune allergic processes underlie), allergic rhinitis, seasonal pollinosis, atopic dermatitis, nettle-rash, angioneurotic edema.
According to foreign specialists the number of people vulnerable to these diseases has rapidly grown. However according to official data on patients registered in care institutions, the rate is far lower than that of real allergy incidence and prevalence among the population.
Over the last years the quantity of allergic pathologies in Ukraine has also increased. They have become even more frequent in the regions affected by the explosion at Chernobyl Nuclear Power- Station (almost two times higher).
So we can say the more civilized the world, the more allergic it is.
“A sack with one hundred diseases” that is how allergy was called in ancient times. This ailment known as early as Hippocrates times is one of the most widespread nowadays.
