Cervarix: a new vaccine providing durable protection against cervical cancer

In 99,7% of cases the reason for cervical cancer is a persistent infection of oncogenic human papilloma virus strains (HPV). In Europe oncogenic 16 and 18 HPV strains are the cause of cervical cancer in 71,5% cases. Vaccination alongside with screening must provide women with better cervical cancer protection as the vaccination protects against infection and screening detects precancerous damages caused by the infection. Cervarix is prescribed to both women and young ladies as a preventive measure for cervical cancer caused by 16 and 18 HPV strains. According to the study of 19000 women, Cervarix proved to be effective in 100% cases of precancerous damages caused by 16 and 18 HPV strains. The Ukrainian hammer thrower, after being a national team sportsman for 15 years, was bidding farewell to big-time sports.
